The Tapas
Food cultures around the world have their own version of small meals, appetizers or tapas. These perfect little bites are always savory treats. From Asian to European to Middle Eastern cultures, starters are a wonderful way to eat as a group and enjoy delicious tasty bites. In Greece, we call them mezes.
Spanish Origins
As you may know, tapas is a Spanish word. It is said that the King Alfonso X of Castile (1252-1284), invented tapas and over hundreds of years the food custom has evolved on the Iberian Peninsula. Tapas can be ordered hot or cold. They can be simple and traditional consisting of cold meats, cheeses and pickles or more fancy to gourmet, as chefs experiment with new tastes and creations.
More than Meze: Tapas the Athenian Way
Here in Greece, at Point a, we took this food custom to a new level by introducing tapas cocktails in Athens. On the rooftop bar in the Acropolis district, enjoying Greek style tapas cocktails is about enjoying the view, company and conversation. At the same time, you can enjoy a variety of textures and flavors that perfectly complement uniquely flavored cocktails.
